First thread, woo hoo... :woot:

I joined SCCA recently and plan to AutoX for a while before hitting the road courses and figured I'd hang out in places like this for a while and see what words of wisdom I can pick up...

I'm hoping this site does well... we'll see how it goes!

welcome... and ya... starting with autox is good choice to start with as it's less expensive for some seat time on improving you skills

I have to say that I'm not sure I agree with AutoX being a direct "in line" way to road racing. You don't actually get a lot of track time, and AutoX tends to require car control that's...different overall.

Track days are a good learning experience and as long as you don't push past 7/10ths, you should be pretty safe with your car.

Either way, I intend to participate in 3 autosports at some point... autocross, roadracing, and drag racing. I'm not sure it matters which one I start with - they each have their own skill sets. I agree that driving below 7/10ths is a relatively decent safety net. However, if I do push past 7/10ths in my search for it, I likely won't cause too much damage during Autocross. Making that mistake for the first time on a road course could have very bad consequences. Does that make sense?
